The last lake dive of the year was grey and quiet. We did a shallow circuit, checked the gear, and practised some buoyancy in the cold. I took fewer photographs than usual and did not mind.

The sea trip in late summer had clear water and different life from the lakes. I saw a cuttlefish for the first time and, of course, had the wrong settings. The dive was still good, and the memory is clearer than the photograph.

A weekend on the Baltic gave us flat water and soft light. The shallows were green and full of small fish, with the bottom visible in patches. I stayed in six metres for most of the dive and worked slowly.

The water was still cold, around 8°C at the surface and less below. Visibility in the shallows was workable, though the bottom was dark. I spent most of the dive watching a small perch near the platform.
